With immense support from the Reserve Bank of India since its inception, the Centre has successfully organised multiple events over the course of its existence for promotion of legal discourse related to the banking and finance sector in India.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of activities successfully undertaken by the Centre:

The CSBF Bulletin

The Centre has been consistently making an effort to push the envelope further with each initiative, the latest one being the CSBF Bulletin. The aim of the Bulletin is to apprise the readers with the recent events and new regulations in the field of banking and finance. All the bulletins can be found here.

Scholasticus Relaunch

A publication by the National Law University, Jodhpur, Scholasticus (ISSN 0975-1157) is one of the leading legal journal which focuses on the laws governing the banking and finance sector. The Editorial Board has chosen the most relevant and contemporary issues for the forthcoming edition of the Journal. Through its Journal, the Centre seeks to foster discourse about the areas of the financial systems in India which need to be focused on. Webinar – Project Finance

CSBF successfully organized a webinar on July 18, 2020 in association with SkillxPro. Mr Vivek Rathod, Partner, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, addressed the students during the webinar divided into three sessions. It was attended by more than 200 students from law universities across the country. The details about the sessions are as follows:

Session I: Understanding Projects & Project Finance Sector & Regulatory Overview

The session dealt with: [A] Scope of the ‘Projects’ as concept and practice area – breaking down Energy, Infrastructure and Resource along with an overview on how these sectors are regulated; [B] Understanding practice area Projects & Project Finance – stakeholders involved, kinds of transactions, etc.; and [C] Market Trends- Increasing demand for projects lawyers with India on the verge of an infra boom

Session II: Career Guide on practising in  Projects & Project Finance practice area:

During the session, the students got an insight about: [A] Day to day work of a projects lawyer; and [B] Scope and feasibility of shaping career as lawyer specializing in Projects & Project Finance sector; etc.

Symposium

The Center organized a symposium in association with Centre for Competition law and Policy titled “Revisiting age-old problems in search of cutting edge solutions in the banking and competition sector”. The event was conducted on March 1, 2020, and the discussion was attended by a group of more than 140 students from U.G. and P.G. courses. For the discussion, we had an expert panel with professionals from all over the country to discuss the interplay between banking and finance, and competition law. The panelists included stalwarts like Dr. K.D. Singh, Joint Director Competition Commission of India, Dr. Abha Yadav, Head of School of Competition and Corporate Law at Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Gautam Chawla, Counsel, Trilegal, and Mr. Ujjwal Mehta, Member, CUTS-CIER, Jaipur.

Essay Writing Competition

The Centre also organises an annual national level essay competition which deals with relevant contemporary themes to engage with the student community and facilitate discourse of ideas, and suggestions. The latest edition of essay competition dealt with subject matters ranging from crowdfunding and P2P lending, and white label ATMs, to blockchain technology and its impact on the Indian banking system. To encourage the students prizes of over INR 25,000/- were announced. The Centre received a really good response from the student community in terms of thought-provoking, intriguing submissions. We seek to organise a competition on similar lines in the academic year 2020-2021 as well.
